Determination of angular distributions of fission fragments from isolated masses by semiconductor gamma-spectrometry

Description

In this work a procedure is described for measuring the angular distribution of fission fragments with fixed atomic charge and mass by semiconductor γ-spectroscopy and determining the angular distributions of symmetric (112Ag and 115Cd) and asymmetric (131I, 132Te, 133I, and 143Ce) fragments formed in fission of 232Th by α-particles with an energy of 27.2 MeV. The experimentally measured quantity in this method is the counting rate at the total absorption peak n(Eγ) for energy Eγ, using foil collectors that accumulate the fission fragments at fixed angles to the beam. Analysis of the experimental data, which have an error of 15%, does not enable the authors to draw any unambiguous conclusion regarding the difference in angular distribution anisotropy for fragments for these two fission modes. 13 refs., 2 figs., 2 tabs
