France. Annex III [Approach for estimating potential exposures]

Creators

Description

According to the French regulation, the assessment of nuclear safety is performed using a deterministic and cautious approach which also includes probabilistic analyses of accidents and their consequences. The assessment has to deal with multiple plausible events which could trigger accidents. At present there is no national framework to account for the environment when performing an impact assessment: it is considered that the environment is protected if the human being is protected. But according to the new French and European regulations, a methodology has to be developed so that the safety assessment includes the protection of both people and the environment.
