Moessbauer study of iron fine particles surface modified with Ni

  • 1. Tsukuba Research Lab., Hitachi Maxell, Ltd., Tsukuba, Ibaraki (Japan)

Description

Iron fine particles surface modified with Ni were synthesized and the structure of the oxide on the particle was investigated by means of Moessbauer measurements. The iron fine particles showed superior resistance against oxidation compared with iron fine particles without Ni. The oxide showed superparamagnetic absorption at 300 K and the Blocking temperature (TB) was about 240 K. Improvement of the resistance against oxidation was explained by the fact that the Ni had an effect to inhibit the growth of grains in the oxide and to keep the grain size small. (orig.)
