Quantification study of the amount of transmitted radiations and that of scattered radiations in the radiographic testing, 2

Description

In the X-ray radiography, blackening of the X-ray film is caused by the transmitted X-rays and the scattered X-rays. In the First Report, the transmitted X-rays were quantified by estimating the spectrum distribution based on the measured value from the absorption curve (relationship between the thickness of the test object and the amount of the transmitted radiations). As was metioned, the scattered X-rays are generated by the interaction of the substance and the X-rays incident upon it. The Report shows that scattered radiations generated as a result of the X-ray radiographic testing whose tube voltage is less than 300 kV are mainly due to the Compton scattering, when the actual radiographic conditions are also taken into consideration. Based on this fact, the formula expresses the amount of the forward and backward scattered radiations quantitatively was derived, with an assumption that the Compton scattering will be the only scattered radiations generated, and its adequacy was verified by the experiment.
