Description

The results of the first steps of a study on GaAs prototypes of radiation resistant position sensitive detectors using charged particle beams are presented. We describe the structural design of two detector prototypes with pitches of 150 μm and 50 μm and their main characteristics. The results of the radiation tests show that the prototypes operate well in fluxes of protons and neutrons up to 2.1014 p/cm2 and 1.1015 n/cm2 and for a γ-ray absorbed dose up to 100 kGy in CH-equivalent. The response of the detectors to charged particles and the detection efficiency have been measured. (orig.)
