Automated management of breast cancer screening

The authors' developed an automated system for managing a breast cancer screening program. The system collects coded mammographic findings from the radiologist and takes an appropriate clinical history directly from the patient. This information is stored in an integrated clinical database to which the results of subsequent examinations or surgery are added. In addition, the system generates letters to the patient and her physician describing mammographic findings, as well as recall letters for each yearly visit. For patients with positive examinations, it checks for records of biopsy or mammography and generates follow-up letters if a record of an appropriate intervention is not found
