Description
The role of virtual negative-energy states, so-called pair terms arising from box and crossed-box diagrams and based on combinations of various meson exchanges, is investigated in detail in nucleon-nucleon scattering, in the framework of time-ordered perturbation theory. The effect of such contributions on N-N scattering phase shifts is non-negligible, especially in the 1S0 partial wave. The precise amount depends very sensitively on the type of form factor chosen
