Description
A natural inorganic material (P301) for treating wastes containing polyvalent metal cations, such as Am3+, Pu3+, Ce3+, is described. The results obtained show that the affinity of these nuclides for P301 material is high. The distribution coefficient on it is determined, being 103-104 at pH 1-3. For column tests with simulated waste (containing 5.2 x 10-5 Ci/L of 239Pu and 8.3 x 10-6 Ci/L of 241Am), the breakthrough bed volume is 1500 and 1100 for Am and Pu respectively, and both decontamination factors (DF) are more than 104. The column property of this material is much better than that of bone char and sodium titanate. This material is shown to be valuable for the waste treatment
