Non-stationarity of resonance signals from magnetospheric and ionospheric plasmas

Rocket observations of resonance signals from ionospheric plasma were made during EIDI relaxation sounding experiments. It appeared that their amplitude, phase, and frequency characteristics are not stationary as a function of the receipt time. The measurement of these nonstationary signals increases the interest presented by resonance phenomena in spatial plasma diagnostics, but this measurement is not easy for frequency non-stationarities. A new method, entirely numerical, is proposed for automatic recognition of these signals. It will be used for the selecting and real-time processing of signals of the same type to be observed during relaxation sounding experiments on board of the futur GEOS satellite. In this method a statistical discrimination is done on the values taken by several parameters associated with the non-stationarities of the observed resonance signals

L'analyse des signaux de resonance du plasma ionospherique observes in situ en fusee-sonde par les experiences EIDI de sondage a relaxation met en evidence la non-stationnarite de leurs caracteristiques d'amplitude, de phase et de frequence en fonction du temps de reception. La mesure de ces non-stationnarites accroit l'interet presente par les phenomenes de resonances pour le diagnostic des plasmas spatiaux, mais cette mesure est malaisee pour certains cas de non-stationnarites en frequence. Pour selectionner et exploiter en temps reel les signaux de meme type attendus lors de l'experience de sondage a relaxation embarquee a bord du futur satellite GEOS d'etude de la magnetosphere terrestre, on propose une methode entierement numerique de reconnaissance automatique de ces signaux: elle consiste a pratiquer une discrimination statistique sur les valeurs prises par plusieurs parametres associes aux non-stationnarites des signaux de resonance observesAdditional details
