Description
The microstructure of alkali activated slag (AAS) concretes was investigated using scanning electron microscopy. AAS concretes prepared using different activators and cured at room and elevated temperatures were examined by SEM, using backscattered electron imaging. In particular, the microstructures of basic paste and paste-aggregate bond were studied. The effect of type of activator and curing temperature on the concrete microstructure was investigated and related to concrete properties. The microstructure of AAS concrete was also compared with that of ordinary Portland cement. Copyright (2001) The Australian Ceramic Society
