Description

It is investigated whether fractionally charged leptons can be incorporated into an SO(14) grand unified model (GUM) with a certain breaking pattern. Since SO(14) is first broken to Gsub(I) identical SU(4)sub(C) x SU(2)sub(L) x SU(2)sub(R) x SU(2)sub(H) x SU(2)sub(H'), where SU(4) is of Pati-Salam type, the problem of too fast proton decay due to the SU(4)sub(C) which is contained in the SU(7) GUM is absent. If Gsub(I) is broken between 109 GeV and 1013 GeV, the 'experimental' values of sin2THETAsub(W) and αsub(s) are correctly reproduced. (orig.)
