Crystal field excitations in dilute Mgsub(1-x)Ersub(x) and Ysub(1-x)Ersub(x) single crystals

Description

Neutron scattering spectra for dilute Er in Mg and Y single crystal hosts show crystal field transitions in agreement with those derived from susceptibility measurements. Concentration effects are observed for Y(2%Er) where an additional transition is assigned to nearest neighbour Er pairs. (orig.)
