Description
Neutron emission spectroscopy (NES) has been employed at JET to study deuterium-tritium discharges heated with high power neutral beam (NB) injection of tritium and deuterium at energies of 150 keV and 75 keV, respectively. High quality data were obtained with the magnetic proton recoil (MPR) neutron spectrometer. The recorded spectra were decomposed in contributions from different ion reactions using both analytical expressions and Monte Carlo simulations. The analysis model involved neutrons from reactions of NB ions in passing and trapped orbits interacting with thermal bulk ions, besides neutrons from thermal ion reactions. The work forms a study of the systematic spectral features in the neutron emission of NB heated plasmas and the results are discussed in terms of the plasma information obtained as well as the capabilities of NES diagnostics
