Neutponogpaphic investigation of beryllium in ultradispersed state

  • 1. Moskovskij Inzhenerno-Fizicheskij Inst. (USSR)

Description

Results of investigations of the structure of porous beryllium by the method of diffraction of monochromatic neutrons are presented. The neutronographic investigation of samples of high-porosity foam metallic beryllium has shown that its crystal structure greatly differs from the structure of conventional polycrystalline beryllium prepared by melting: parameters of crystal lattice are smaller, and values of mean square atom shifts are larger.' Besides, the considerable part of atoms is shifted from its ideal positions so far as it does not take part in the coherent scattering. Investigated samples of high porous beryllium consisting of particles with dimensions approximately 100 A and less have a higher internal specific surface. It is established that high porous beryllium actively interacts with oxygen from the air, in this case crystal modification of beryllium oxide does not form
