Possible improvement of the metrological characteristics of x-ray radiometric analysis with a spherical measuring geometry

Description

An attempt is made to improve the conditions of excitation and detection of characteristic x-rays in the practical application of the x-ray radiometric method of analysis of composition of a substance. The sensitivity of the method is improved significantly by the application of a spherical measuring geometry. An arrangement, which is shown schematically, was built for experimental verification of the effectiveness of the spherical geometry. The main element of the appartus is a cell made in the form of two concentric hemispheres of polymer film. The results of verification obtained permit the conclusion to be reached that the use of a spherical geometry ensures that the sensitivity of the x-ray radiometric method increases by a factor of roughly 2.5 as compared to the plane geometry
