Peculiarities of void formation during mutual diffusion in ''closed'' shape samples

  • 1. Khar'kovskij Gosudarstvennyj Univ. (Ukrainian SSR)

Description

The peculiarities of the distribution of stresses in mutual diffusion are investigated in ''closed'' shape specimens of Cu-Ni and Cd-Ni systems. It is shown that the specific character of the distribution of stresses in specimens results in certain peculiarities of pore formation. An intermetallic compound is formed in the Cd-Ni system through mutual diffusion, its formation involving a jump-like change of volume. Considerable stresses which may cause macroscopic fractures, cracks, local separations of the intermetallic compound from the core are bound to arise in the diffusion zone of the ''closed'' shape specimen
