Survey of gamma radiation in the vicinity of the Asse Saltmine radioactive waste disposal site
Description
The γ-component of the radiation environment was measured by means of a Ge(Li) spectrometer calibrated for in situ measurements. γ-spectra were taken at 10 measurement sites in the surroundings. Using these spectra, the 137Cs from atmospheric nuclear weapons tests as well as the natural radionuclides 40K, 238U and 232Th, and their concentration in the soil could be determined. The resulting radiation exposure rate at one meter above the ground was calculated. The local dose rate determined on the basis of these nuclide-specific measurements was compared with the results obtained from measurements effected at the same sites with a scintillation dose ratemeter. The measurements did not give any evidence of a contamination of the environmental soil due to the operation of the Asse storage site for low- and intermediate-level radioactive wastes. (orig./HP)

Mit Hilfe eines fuer In-Situ-Messungen kalibrierten Ge(Li)-Spektrometers wurde die γ-Komponente der Umgebungsstrahlung gemessen. An insgesamt 10 Messpunkten in der Umgebung wurden γ-Spektren aufgenommen. Anhand dieser Spektren konnten das aus den Kernwaffenversuchen in der Atmosphaere stammende 137Cs sowie die natuerlich vorkommenden Radionuklide 40K, 238U und 232Th nachgewiesen und ihr Gehalt im Boden bestimmt werden. Die daraus resultierende Strahlenexposition in 1 m Hoehe ueber dem Boden wurde berechnet. Die auf der Grundlage dieser nuklidspezifischen Messungen ermittelte Ortsdosisleistung wurde mit den Resultaten, die an denselben Messpunkten mit einem Szintillationsdosisleistungsmessgeraet bestimmt wurden, verglichen. Die Messungen erbrachten keine Hinweise auf eine durch den Betrieb des Salzbergwerkes Asse als Lagerstaette fuer schwach- und mittelaktive radioaktive Abfaelle bedingte Kontamination des Bodens in der Umgebung.
