Description
An excitation function between 27 and 40 MeV/uma incident energy has been measured for the 40Ar+27Al reaction. Results show that the evaporation residue component vanishes for beam energies in excess of 32-36 MeV/uma. This result is discussed in terms of entrance channel limitations to a composite nucleus formation and of the maximum excitation energy a composite nucleus can sustain prior to complete disintegration.
