A preputial splitting technique for surgery of the canine penis

An anatomic study was performed to identify the blood supply to the prepuce of dogs using prepared cadaver specimens, by the injection of the pudendal or dorsal penile arteries with a diluted barium sulfate solution. Subsequent radiographs revealed that a ventral midline incision could be performed with minimal compromise to the major preputial vessels and associated microcirculation. This ''preputial splitting'' technique subsequently was utilized in two clinical cases. Preliminary results indicate that a ventral midline preputial incision is simple toperform and provides exposure of the entire penile shaft for corrective surgical procedures
