The enthalpy of formation of UPd3 by fluorine bomb calorimetry
Description
The energy of the reaction between F2(g) and UPd3(c) to give Pd(PdF6)(c), about 15 mass per cent Pd(c) and UF6(g), has been measured in a bomb calorimeter. After removal of F2(g) and UF6(g), but without dismantling the combustion bomb, the energy of the reaction between gaseous PF3(g) and the (Pd(PdF6)(c) + Pd(c)) left in the bomb, to give Pd(c) and PF5(g), has been measured in the calorimeter. Combining these reactions, the standard enthalpy of formation: ΔH0sub(f)(UPd3, c, 298.15 K) has been derived and is reported. (author)
