Enhancement of detectability by the use of coloured illumination for CT display

Description
A study has been made of the effect of coloured illumination on the detectability of both natural and artificial low-contrast signals immersed in CT noise. Enhancement of detectability relative to white light was found to be related to variations in visual acuity at different wavelengths. These results, together with previously published observations, suggest that an increase of detectability by changing viewing conditions can usually be achieved only at the expense of a reduction in resolution.
