Experience gained by the Russian organizations in designing, construction and operation of nuclear power plant with the BN-350 reactor

  • 1. State Scientific Center of the Russian Federation, Institute for Physics and Power Engineering (Russian Federation)

Description

NPP with the BN-350 reactor was designed by the leading Russian institutions in the area of nuclear power. Creation of this NPP was a large step from the small-size research BR-5 reactor of 5 MWth power to the commercial reactor plant (RP) of 1000 MWth power. Experience gained in creating BN-350 RP is multifaceted. Answers were received to many questions related to creation and operation of subsequent power units of NPP with fast reactors. This experience was taken into account for successful work on the design of experimental fast reactor BOR-60, and later - on creation, start-up and operation of power unit with the BN-600 reactor. It is impossible to provide information in the brief paper on all innovative design approaches, changes in the component designs, systems, instruments and operating modes. The goal of this paper is to outline the most important areas of experience gaining. (author)
