Digital phase-contrast mammography system
Description
This paper describes the technological process of application of phase-contrast (PC) imaging to digital mammography (PCM), quality (spatial resolution and conspicuity) of PCM images obtained and its comparative discussion with techniques in the nondestructive test. Digital PC imaging has been found possible even with use of the conventional medical X-ray tube, which was previously considered to be impossible, and the PCM system in the title has been developed. The PCM system consists of a micro-focus X-ray tube with a Mo-anode capable of x 1.75 magnification, a photostimulable phosphor for detection, a computed radiography/image processor and a dry silver-printer. In digital PC images, conspicuity is improved due to the edge effect by magnification and PC, and the PCM's image quality obtained in the actual clinic is found equivalent to or better than that of the ordinary screen/film and digital systems.
