Commissioning of the DELPHI VFT ministrip detector

Description
For the 1996 LEP run the DELPHI microvertex detector has been upgraded with a silicon tracker for the very forward region. The lowest angles are covered by two layers of large pitch strip detectors, each of which provides a measurement of both transversal co-ordinates. The performance of this system during the first two months of running is shown and compared to the expectations from laboratory tests of single components in terms of signal size and noise levels.
