An adjustable monochromatic beta source

  • 1. Northwestern Univ., Evanston, IL (USA)

Description

The construction and performance of a relatively small, lightweight and inexpensive 900 beta decay spectrometer magnet is described. The spectrometer provides an adjustable quasi-monochromatic beam of electrons which is virtually free of γ-ray contamination. The device constitutes a versatile tool for testing, detector development and calibration in nuclear and particle physics. (orig.)
