Elimination of C3 as the Bond-Neff depression opacity source in Hr 774
Description
The pseudocontinuum of C3 has been proposed by Fix as the source of the Bond-Neff depression in HR 774. In such a case the strongest rotational lines of the 4050 A vibrational band of C3 should be clearly evident at high dispersion. A 2.2 A mm-1 plate of HR 774 is examined in the 4050--4060 A region where the strongest lines should form. The absence of C3 rotational lines indicates that C3 cannot be the major contributor to the Bond-Neff depression in HR 774
