Experiences with courses to maintain the level of knowledge

Since some years now refresher courses, destined to maintain the level of knowledge of radiation protection commissioners, are carried out at the training centre >berghof<, the house for occupational safety and health of the professional association for the electrical and precision engineering industries. More than 100 participants attend these courses every year. When in 1987 the German X-ray protection regulation and then in 1989 the German radiation protection regulation were amended, many radiation protection commissioners had to learn, that their knowledge was not up to date. There was a need to brush up the knowledge by specific courses. A similar situation will occur when the German X-ray- and the radiation protection regulation will be amended. Course-organisers should be prepared for this situation. This contribution will report on the experiences made by the planning and organisation of those courses and it shall be discussed how refresher courses might look like in the future. (orig.)
