Near infrared observation of the galactic center region

  • 1. Nagoya Univ. (Japan). Faculty of Science

Description

Surface brightness distributions of the central bulge of our Galaxy at 2.4 μm and 3.5 μm were observed with a spacial resolution of 0 deg.2. The color of the Galactic nucleus shows the excess extinction of AV > approx 10. The bright 3.5 μm source found by our previous observation at 1 ∼ 353 deg is identified with the HII region NGC 6357. The 3.5 μm emission is stronger than that expected from far infrared spectrum and radio emission. (author)
