Metallic berkelium production
Description
A 740 mg sample of 249Bk metal has been obtained as a layer on the tantalum substrate by thorium thermal reduction of berkelium oxide. The metal yield amounted 85%. It has been shown that metallic Bk possesses the double hexagonal close-packed structure of α-La type with the parameters, a=(0.3412±0.0002) nm, c=(1.1060±0.0006) nm. The thermal expansion coefficients at the temperatures between -180 and +17 deg C has been estimated
