Corrosion problems in heat transfer systems of Fast Breeder Reactor

Creators

  • 1. Corrosion Science and Technology Div., Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research, Kalpakkam (India)

Description

Sodium is being used as coolant in Fast Breeder Reactors (FBR) due to its good physical properties sodium removes heat from fuel in primary circuit and transfer it to secondary sodium through intermediate heat exchanger (IHX). Heat sink in the secondary loop is steam generator. Austenitic stainless steels are used in the primary circuit and IHX and ferritic steels in the secondary circuit. Corrosion behaviour of austenite slab in sodium and that of ferritic steels in secondary circuit. Corrosion behaviour of austenitic stainless steel in sodium and that of ferritic steels in sodium and water is described
