Collective toroidal modes in atomic nuclei

Description
The values of energy and probability of excitation of collective dipole states of negative parity with the Skyrme forces were calculated. The method of moments of the Wigner function is employed in the calculations. The theory reproduces a giant dipole resonance, as well as isoscalar and isovector modes of compression and vortex type, toroidal excitation being clearly distinguished among them. 22 refs.; 2 figs.; 1 tab
