Reduction quenching of Ru(bipy)32+ is a new way for photoinitiation of chain reaction of sulfogroup substitution for chlorine in chloronaphthols

Description

The possibility of photochemical initiation of reaction of sulfogroup substitution for chlorine by visible light using a sensitizer by means of substrate ion-radical formation has been studied. It is shown that the reaction mentioned proceeds with the use of [Ru(bipy)3]Cl3 complex as a sensitizer and [Co(bipy)3](ClO4)2 complex as an intermediate electron transferrer. The photoinitiation stage is caused by reduction quenching of excited Ru(bipy)32+ by Co(bipy)32+ complex. Kinetics of substitution reaction is studied, quantum yields are presented. The reaction mechanism is suggested
