Comparison of the clonidine test with the insulin tolerance test in the evaluation of patients with short stature
Description
Thirty one patients aged 2.9 to 17.5 years, with heights from 1.3 to 85 standard deviations below the mean for age and sex, are studied. Two GH provocative tests are done: (1) insulin tolerance test (ITT): intravenous regular insulin 0.1 U/kg body weight; (2) clonidine test (CLOT): oral clonidine 0.0375 mg/m2 surface area. Serum GH is measured by a radioimmunoassay method developed in the laboratory and calibrated against a reference preparation provided by the National Institutes of Health. (M.A.C.)
Abstract (Portuguese)
Estudam-se 31 pacientes, com idade entre 2,9 e 17,5 anos e altura entre 1,3 e 8,5 desvios-padroes abaixo da media para sexo e idade. Realizam-se 2 testes de liberacao de GH: (1) teste de tolerancia a insulina (ITT): insulina simples 0,1 U/kg de peso por via endovenosa; (2) teste de clonidina (TCLO): clonidina 0.0375 mg/m2 de superficie corporea por via oral. Utiliza-se metodo de radiomunoensaio, desenvolvido no laboratorio e padronizado por comparacao com preparacao de referencia fornecida pelo 'National Institutes of Health', para dosagem sorologica de GH.
