Comments on stability of superconducting magnets

Creators

  • 1. Kyushu Univ., Fukuoka, Japan

Description

As studies on the problem of instability of superconducting magnets develop, the necessary degree of stabilization is shown to be much less than that of the old designs. The necessary degree, however, differs with quantitative natures of the disturbances assumed. The nature of the disturbances is discussed. However, for further developments of the technique of stabilization, especially for large magnets with high current density, more knowledge about each disturbance, i.e., its quantitative nature as well as global statistical nature, interaction between each other etc., is needed. Methods of prediction of quench as well as those of diagnosis such as acoustic emission measurement should also be developed
