Critical current density of filamentary NSG123 superconductors in high magnetic field

Description
(Nd0.33Sm0.33Gd0.33)1.18Ba2.12Cu3.09Oy filaments have been successfully fabricated by a solution spinning method and OCMG processing. We have systematically investigated the relationship between cooling rate from the partial-melting temperature and transport Jc value for filamentary samples treated in 0.1%O2 + Ar. It was found that both the Jc value and the microstructure of samples depended on the cooling rate. The samples partially melted at 1050oC and cooling rate of 10-50 deg. C/h showed Jc value higher than 104 A/cm2. The maximum Jc value of 3.0 x 104 A/cm2 was obtained for 40 deg. C/h sample. The transport Jc was also measured at 83-90 K in external magnetic fields up to 17 T. The 10 deg. C/h sample exhibited superior Jc behavior and a Jc value of 1.1 x 103 A/cm2 at 83 K was maintained up to 17 T, in which fine (Nd,Sm,Gd)2BaCuO5 particles about 1 μm in diameter were homogeneously dispersed
