Factors in the oxidation assessment of AISI type 310 steels in high pressure carbon dioxide
- 1. Central Electricity Generating Board, Manchester (UK). Scientific Services Dept.
Description
The long term oxidation of 25Cr-20Ni production steels has been studied over the temperature range 480 to 6500C. At the higher temperature a range of chromium rich oxides is formed in varying proportions on the steel surfaces. However, by identification of the oxide morphologies, mechanisms of oxide growth can be formulated and used to extrapolate the laboratory data to the longer term plant situation. Such mechanisms must take into account any long term processes occurring within the metal and must also consider any geometrical limitations or any factors arising from component fabrication.
