Analysis of energy transport systems with multiple energy carriers
- 1. Sintef Energy Research, Trondheim (Norway)
Description
A general energy system consists of energy sources, energy transport and end user markets. The transport system includes transmission, storage, and conversion between different energy carriers. A new research project will focus on the energy transport system from energy source to consumer markets, considering different alternatives of energy carriers (electric energy, gas, LNG, oil, coal etc.), conversion between different energy carriers, and energy storage capabilities. A methodology for systematic analysis of the energy transport system will be developed, including technological, economic and environmental aspects. This methodology can be an instrument both for decision making and production planning as well as optimization of energy transport systems. Knowledge and experience from existing analysis tools for large scale electricity systems will be utilized in the project and extended with infrastructure and converting processes for other energy carriers.
