Trace element determination in atmospheric airborne particulates collected in Kinshasa by instrumental neutron activation analysis

  • 1. Centre Regional d'Etudes Nucleaires, Kinshasa (Zaire)

Description

Atmospheric aerosol samples have been collected on filter papers during the last three years throughout Kinshasa to investigate the trace element distribution. The collected samples were analyzed by instrumental neutron activation analysis and the following elements were determined: As, Au, Ba, Br, Ce, Co, Cr, Cs, Fe, K, La, Na, Rb, Sc, Se, Sm, Th, U, and Zn. Data evaluation comprises the number of analytical results, the range of concentrations, the arithmetic and geometric means with their standard deviation and the median values for a set of 4 pilot stations. Also given are the frequency distribution patterns, the enrichment factors and the evolution of trace element contents with time
