Protecting proton beam piping at Fermi Laboratory

  • 1. PSG Corrosion Engineering/CorrPro Inc., Grosse Pointe Park, MI (United States)

Description

Bare steel, high-energy particle beam piping was cathodically protected without interfering with delicate instrumentation and operation of the Fermi Nuclear Accelerator Laboratory. The paper describes the site, and discusses design concerns, including grounding, electrical continuity, instrumentation, shielding, interference with other structures, and environmental safety. Initial evaluations, design concepts, and installation are discussed
