40 years and beyond, it's possible
Description
After a discussion about the definition and meaning of lifetime for a nuclear plant, the author outlines that manufacturers as well as R and D researches showed that failure criteria were still respected after more than 40 years. She notices that many nuclear plants in the world are keeping on operating after more than 40 years: the oldest is the Oyster Creek plant in New Jersey which is 47 year old. Moreover, 74 reactors obtained their certification to be exploited until they are 60 year old. Other examples of old reactors are mentioned (in Great-Britain, in India, in Switzerland). Then, the author evokes the control process which is implemented in France, and notably comprises the decennial visit (inspection and control techniques used for different components are indicated)
