Database for materials development for fusion reactors

Description

The present status of the databse for the development of materials for fusion reactors is presented. The development of materials for fusion reactors is usually made on the basis of the empirical rule derived from previous data. For this purpose, the databse of materials will be a powerful tool. The database will provide the basic data for the design of reactor materials. Empirical rules or theoretical formulas will be derived from the database. At present, the database which can be used for general purpose is hardly found. Practically, simple databases are useful. Those for material science are MATPRO, MPDC and FPDB. The MPDC includes the data of various strength tests of materials and bulk characteristics. The FPDB is a database of the irradiation data of fuel for light water reactors. The MATPRO is a collection of the data on the behavior of cladding materials. The trial development of database has been made in Japan. The important data from experimental and calculated results were compiled. Those data were arranged in data format. The arrangement was made for the use by the researchers who are not familiar with computer technique. An example of data-sorting is explained. (Kato, T.)

「データベース」という言葉がさまざまな意味合いで使われている。これは、データベースそのものが進展の途上にあることの反映であるとみることもできるが、一般的には、ある特定の応用だけを考えたデータの集まりをデータファイルと呼び、そのようなデータファイルをより広範な利用体制を考えて整備·統合したものをデータベースと呼ぶことが多い。本稿では、そのようなデータベースに何が期待されているのか、またデータベースによって何が可能になっているのか、そして将来どのような進展の可能性をもっているのか、等々の観点から核融合炉用材料データベースについて解説する。 (著者)
