Description
Malignant transformation of Syrian golden hamster embryo (SHE) cells was induced in vitro by tritiated water (HTO) and tritiated thymidine (3H-TdR). The results suggest that HTO and 3H-TdR can directly induce malignant transformation of SHE cells in vitro. Concanavalin A agglutination assay was positive. The transformed cells gained the ability to form colonies in soft-agar medium. The results show that malignant transformation of SHE cells was induced by HTO and 3H-TdR but not by 3H-uridine in vitro. It is suggested that malignant transformation of SHE cells was possibly through nuclear DNA damage of target cells, not through the damage of large molecules in cytoplasm
