Effect of energy structure of β-transition strength function on probability of emission of delayed neutrons

Description

The energies of maxima of strength functions of β-transitions and probabilities of their population in the 135Sb → 135Te, 87Br → 87Kr and 85As → 85Se transitions are described in the framework of the model with Gamov-Teller residual interaction. The strength function model enables one to explain the existence of maxima in the experimental strength functions obtained from delayed neutrons spectra. The most striking feature of the neutron decay - a strong suppression of neutron transitions to the ground state compared with those to exited states - is explained qualitatively. It is emphasized that the present model provides much better description of experimental data than the calculations without residual interactions
