Qualitative and quantitative interpretation of boron autoradiographs by means of computer image analysis system IBAS

  • 1. Instytut Metalurgii Zelaza, Gliwice (Poland)

Description

The work presents the concept of qualitative and a quantitative interpretation of boron autoradiographs by means of computer image analysis system IBAS and a program for quantitative metallography. The method is based on a stipulated classification of types of tracks, suitable for a analyzed technological problem, and counting tracks within individual classes. The criteria of classification, the procedure of preparing autoradiographs for the quantitative analysis and a course of it are also described. Two basic programs, which enable a qualification of different parameters of boron distribution irrespective of its concentration and form, are presented. The programs of analysis can be used for: estimation of relative differences of boron concentration in micro spaces segregation; estimation of participation of boron compounds created in following stages of technological process in a general number of compounds; identification of non-metallic inclusions with boron and their participation in a general number of inclusions; simultaneous analysis of parameters of boron distribution and some of the structure parameters (the size of grains, dendrites, cells of eutectics).
