Monitoring systems of radioactive airborne and liquid releases from the Caorso nuclear power station (Italy)
Description
The monitoring systems of radioactive effluents from the Caorso nuclear power station (Piacenza, Italy), which is equipped with a G.E. BWR of 2651MW(th), are described. Process monitors installed on systems containing airborne and liquid fluids, capable of retaining releases of radioactive effluents in the event of accidents, are described (First Barrier). Furthermore, direct monitors of particulates, iodine and noble gases at the discharge points, measuring continuously the effluents in normal operating conditions and providing alarms in the event of unexpected releases, are described (Second Barrier). Continuous and/or discontinuous sampling systems installed on plant systems and discharge points with subsequent laboratory measurements for particulates, iodine, noble gases and specific isotopes are also described (Third Barrier). The survey also covers the sensitivity, measuring range, alarm and actuation setpoints, as well as the monitoring systems. (author)
