On using concentrated electromagnetic waves for charged particle motion control

Creators

Description

The possibility is considered of using an axial-symmetric field (electromagnetic concentrated field (CF)) of the type of converging cylindrical or spherical waves of various frequencies for accelerating electrons and ions. The CF's are assumed to produce by phased emitters (SHF lasers) controlled by frequency and situated at distances R, being much greater than the emitting wave lambda. Approximated non-relativistic equations of motion are considered and the effective confining and accelerating fields estimated. Illustrative examples concerning the use of spherical waves for compressing electron bunches are cited. The effective and accelerating fields are equal to 1O9 V/m. The use of a highly intensive electron beam in a collective accelerator is shown to be advisable
