Rossing Uranium metallurgical operations

Description
The role of the metallurgical plant is to extract a saleable uranium product from the ore mined. The crushers reduce the ore to a size small enough for the uranium minerals to be exposed to the leaching agents. The pulp is kept in suspension by large mechanical stirrers. Having extracted the uranium into sulphuric acid solution it is separated from the waste solids. The uranium is washed out of the slime. The solution is fed to the ion exchange plant. The next step is solvent extraction. After washing out the entrained sulphate, the yellow cake is heated to produce uranium oxide calcine
