Description

In the present paper we have studied B1-B2 transition in KBr using the minimisation of Gibbs free energies of both the phases (NaCl, real and CsCl, hypothetical) using a three body potential model. This potential model includes Coulombic energy modified by including three body interactions effects and overlap repulsive energy. Gibbs free energy difference ΔG has been plotted against pressure and ΔG becomes zero at the phase transition pressure i.e. 1.825 GPa. To testify this result experimentally, we have measured phase transition pressure of KBr through cubic press of tungsten carbide anvil cell. Resistivity shows a sudden change in KBr at 1.8 GPa.
