Pilot conditioning of fuel elements

The hot commissioning of the pilot conditioning facility has been planned for 1994. It is a multipurpose hot cell facility, the various tasks of which are described in detail. A precondition for obtaining the licence for operation is the storage permission for intermediate storage of the conditioning facility's products. As regards the POLLUX moulds, that can be done in the transport/storage containers intended for storing glass moulds whose intermediate storage at the Gorleben transport container storage facility has already been applied for according to the Atomic Energy Law. In contrast to that, the POLLUX containers are independent storage containers fulfilling the requirements if interim storage and, from today's angle, also those of ultimate disposal. Positive results of qualifying the plugging technique by means of welding are available. (orig./DG)

Die Heisse Inbetriebnahme der Pilot-Konditionierungsanlage ist im Zeitraum 1994 vorgesehen. Es handelt sich um eine Mehrzweckheisszellen-Anlage, deren Aufgaben im einzelnen beschrieben worden sind. Voraussetzung fuer die Erteilung der Betriebsgenehmigung ist das Vorliegen der Aufbewahrungsgenehmigung zur Zwischenlagerung der Produkte der Konditionierungsanlage. Im Falle der POLLUX-Kokillen kann dieses in den zur Aufbewahrung von Glaskokillen vorgesehenen Transport-/Lagerbehaeltern erfolgen, fuer deren Zwischenlagerung bereits der atomrechtliche Genehmigungsantrag fuer das Transportbehaelterlager Gorleben gestellt ist. Demgegenueber sind die POLLUX-Behaelter eigenstaendige Lagerbehaelter, die die Anforderungen zur Zwischenlagerung und aus heutiger Sicht die der Endlagerung erfuellen. Positive Ergebnisse zur Qualifikation der Verschlusstechnik mittels Schweissverfahren liegen vor. (orig./DG)Additional details
