On the destruction of interstellar dust by cosmic rays

Description
Investigated is the destruction of interstellar dust particles (JDP) by cosmic rays (CR). Hydrodynamic mechanism of JDP destruction has been considered. Given is a dependence curve of specific ionization losses on a charged particle energy. CR particle energy range has been determined, where dust distribution is possible. Estimation of JDP mean life time before destruction has been made. A possibility of JDP destruction by displaced atoms has been also studied, which appearance is due to elastic interaction of an incident particle with substance lattice atoms. Destruction of graphite JDP by protons and more heavy CR nuclei has been considered. Investigated destruction mechanism of such interstellar dust particles by cosmic rays can be successfully realized. To calculate JDP mean life time it is necessary to know their element composition and structure as well as to know CR energy spectra within the energy range of E<1 Gev/nucleon
